The Americana Volunteer Program offers long-term service opportunities, catering to individuals seeking to fulfill service hour requirements while fostering a fulfilling and collaborative experience for both volunteers and the communities we serve.

Getting Started

Schedule an Orientation
Out of respect for the community we serve, we ask all Americana volunteer candidates to complete an orientation session BEFORE applying to the Americana Volunteer program. This is done to insure all volunteers are informed about Americana and conscious of the space they will be working in. You will complete your application with the volunteer coordinator at the end of your orientation session.

Annual Background Check Notice
All Americana Volunteers are must have a  background check on file dated no older than a year from your start date as an Americana Volunteer. You will receive an invite to complete and submit your background check after your orientation. We ask that you complete this background check within 72 hours of receiving it and renew it within one year of your start date.

Americana reserves the right to deny any volunteer candidate based on the review of their background check. Background checks are ordered and processed by Sterling Volunteers.

Volunteer Opportunities

You must complete a volunteer orientation before scheduling a shift for any of these opportunities.

After School Program Support • Monday - Thursday • 3:30pm - 6:30pm
There are three separate shifts available for this opportunity.

• Shift One: 3:30pm - 4:30pm
  • Assist teachers with student supervision
  • Assist teachers with lesson planning
• Shift Two: 4:30pm - 5:30pm
  • Assist teachers with curriculum and activities
• Shift Three: 5:30pm - 6:30pm
  • Assist Ms. Sherry with the Kids' Café in the cafeteria
  • Assist teachers with classroom clean up
  • Assist teachers with student pick up/dismissal

Fiberworks Program Volunteer • Tuesday - Thursday • 12pm - 3pm
The fiberworks program is in need of a volunteer, preferably female or femme-identifying, to help supervise children while participants are working. Additionally, you may be asked to help organize their fabric materials and help operate the online fiberworks store.

Open Volunteer Shifts
An open shift is an unspecified volunteer assignment so that a volunteer is on hand for needs that arise too soon to be added to the volunteer bulletin. During this time, you may be asked by any staff member to assist with any number of tasks. If you are not assigned a task within the first half hour of your shift, you are dismissed and credited a full hour of volunteer time.

Community Garden
The community garden is an important local food source and safe cultivation space for a number of our participants, so it's important for us maintain the garden. If you are interested in working in the community garden, please visit our Community Garden page or reach out to our community garden coordinator:
