Volunteer

At Americana Community Center, there are several volunteer opportunities for both individual and group volunteers. Any persons interested in working with a diverse population are welcome at the community center. For more information on volunteer opportunities, contact Francesca Pribble at 502-366-7813, or by email at francesca @ americanacc.org.
Individual Opportunities: There are many individual volunteer opportunities available at Americana. Volunteers can assist staff during:
- The After School Program, Mon-Friday, from 3:30-6:30. The program provides a safe and educational environment for children in the South Louisville area, where they can come and receive help with homework and basic reading and writing skills. The program also provides several special activities for the children, including dance, drama, soccer, music, and step team. The After School program needs volunteers to help children with homework, guide children in their reading skills, as well as assist staff with supervising children in other special activities.
- Americana is also seeking volunteers for its free tax preparation clinic. The annual clinic provides free tax preparation assistance to South Louisville residents. Volunteers will be thoroughly trained and prepped on how to provide this service to the community participants.
- Individual volunteers are also needed for Americana special events, including the Americana World Festival, held in June, and the annual Holiday Party, held in December. These events attract hundreds of visitors from the Louisville area, and require large numbers of volunteers to help the events run smoothly.
- Family Education volunteers are ideal for those individuals who would rather come in the evenings. The Family Ed. program runs from 6:30-8pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
- Right to Read Volunteers. Right to Read is an incentive based literacy program for students. Volunteers are needed to work one on one with a student; training is also available. Hours vary.
- Americana Fiberworks is a unique program consisting of a group of Somali Bantu women. This is a fiber arts and education program. ACC would welcome any volunteers interested in assisting these ladies, especially those who have skills in sewing, quilting, etc.
- Group Projects. There is a consistent supply of opportunity for groups to complete improvement projects at the center. This is great for businesses, families, students and artists.
This Fall, 2008, ACC has received 60 volunteers who lend their time and care in countless ways. Volunteers are an essential element in working to provide services and build strength in the community through ACC programs.
