Right to Read

The Right to Read program at ACC is part of the city-wide Every1Reads Initiative. Piloted in 2006-2007 with funding from Metro United Way/Office of Youth Development and the Gheens Foundation, the program has since expanded and served 58 youth in 2008.
Right to Read is an incentive based literacy program that includes students filling out personal goal sheets in the areas of reading, behavior, and attendance. If they complete their goals, they get to participate in an incentive activity such as a field trip or pizza party. Americana continues to have enthusiastic students become involved and engaged in a passion for reading. Volunteers to serve as reading tutors are always needed and welcomed, and free training is offered. For more information about Right to Read, contact Ashley at ashley@americanacc.org.
