Americana Fiberworks is a women’s arts and educational group. As a part of Americana Community Center the program helps participants discover and utilize resources to realize their individual potential, build strong families, and create a safe, supportive community. The program is designed to support the positive integration of refugee and immigrant women into the Louisville community using a common interest in Fiber Arts. By learning and sharing artistic skills, expanding literacy skills, exploring US culture, and developing social networks participants help one another develop the confidence, skills and resources necessary to identify and pursue goals for themselves and their families as they adapt to their new home in Louisville.

Volunteers come and work with the women on Thursdays and Saturdays, balancing instruction in various fiber art processes with educational and literacy sessions that address the women's needs in adjusting to life in Louisville. The group attends arts and craft fairs to display and sell their work; in addition to sales and special orders.

Fiber arts projects might include: sewing, crochet, knitting, and tie dye. Volunteers who have knowledge of these activities are invaluable to the participants and the instructor. If you have any creative skills you would like to put to good use please contact our Volunteer Coordinator.
